Corkamull Cottage

Ulva Ferry

Isle of Mull

If you are looking for a holiday cottage in a spectacular setting, Corkamull has the best view on the Isle of Mull!  As our family home for the past 40 years, it is also available for guests to rent between March and October (other times by special arrangement).

Location

Mull is the 2nd largest island of the Inner Hebrides, off the West Coast of Scotland.  Famous for its wildlife and spectacular scenery, Mull has a lot to offer the visitor.  Being on the West of Scotland, it can be quite warm in summer as it benefits from the Gulf Stream currents. People have been known to swim in the sea, usually at Calgary beach.

Corkamull Cottage is on the West coast of Mull, overlooking the islands of Ulva, Inch Kenneth and Eorsa.  On a clear day, you can see the Ross of Mull and the historic island of Iona, about 20 miles away (as the seagull flies). Ben More, Mull’s only ‘Munro’ (mountain over 3,000 feet) is also visible from the Cottage.

The Cottage

Built in about 1860 and sleeping up to 6 people, the cottage has been extensively upgraded over the past 10 years without losing its original character.  We have added a new bathroom, 2nd toilet and a separate shower room so that everyone can get ready in the morning (or afternoon, if you prefer).  So that you can still enjoy the view when the Mull weather isn’t at its best, we added a conservatory to the front of the cottage about five years ago.

The cottage is fully equipped for holiday living, with an Aga-Rayburn, gas cooker and fridge-freezer in the kitchen, two dining tables and eight chairs in the dining room and conservatory, a closed wood stove, sofas and armchairs in the living room.  We also have a selection of local books, which we ask our guests to leave behind for others to use.  We do not have a television or radio, as reception is very poor without a satellite.

Upstairs, there are four bedrooms, with a double bed, a twin bed (which can be hooked together to form a double) and two single beds, all with duvets and blankets.  We provide sheets and duvet covers for our guests, but not towels.

Renting the Cottage

Our normal rental season is March – October each year.  We rent from Friday-Friday, asking guests to arrive in the cottage no earlier than 4pm and leave the cottage by 10 am on the day of departure.  This allows time for our cleaner to prepare the cottage for the next guests.

Wildlife

Mull is justifiably famous for its wildlife – you can see eagles, buzzards, otters, seals and red deer all within a short walk from the cottage if you like to explore by yourselves.  There are several tour companies on Mull who can show you more – including Puffins and other seabirds on the islands of Lunga and Staffa, the Sea Eagles of Glen More and even Whales off the coast.
